UNDERSTANDING YOUR BMI

Body Mass Index (BMI) is a measurement of your body weight based on your height and weight. Although your BMI does not actually “measure” your percentage of body fat, it is a useful tool to estimate a healthy body weight based on your height. Due to its ease of measurement and calculation, it is the most widely used diagnostic indicator to identify a person’s optimal weight depending on his height. Your BMI “number” will inform you if you are underweight, of normal weight, overweight, or obese. However, due to the wide variety of body types, the distribution of muscle and bone mass, etc., it is not appropriate to use this as the only or final indication for diagnosis.

- BMI of <18.5 = Underweight

- BMI of 18.5 - 25.0 = Healthy Weight

- BMI of 25.1 - 30.0 = Overweight

- BMI of 30.1 - 30.0 = Obese

What medications are prescribed for weight loss?

Radiant Prime prescribes a wide range of medications that are FDA-approved for treating obesity and high BMI. We do not use cookie-cutter protocols or one-size fits all approaches for our clients. Medications that we frequently prescribe include Zepbound™, Wegovy®, Contrave®, Qsymia®, or Phentermine. The medical provider will thoroughly evaluate your medical history and goals in order to determine the best treatment option for you. We will coordinate with your insurance company to request coverage of prescribed medications.

In addition, we offer adjunct treatments that include BioBoost MICC injections, BioBoost Plus injections, Vitamin B12, and other peptides that can enhance the results of weight loss medications.

Do I need a specific BMI to qualify for weight loss medications?

The general requirement to qualify for weight loss medication is a diagnosis of obesity, which is a BMI of 30 or higher OR being overweight with a BMI of 27 or higher with at least one weight-related comorbidity present. A weight-related comorbidity is a health condition that is directly linked to being overweight, and may include disorders such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, osteoarthritis, sleep apnea, tyle 2 diabetes, and others.

There are select times when exceptions are made to the BMI requirement, but this is based on medical provider evaluation of the risks versus benefits and approval of the treatment plan. One example of when a lower BMI may be approved is a person with a history of bariatric surgery who has been maintaining their weight for years, but has recently regained 30 pounds, yet their BMI is only 26. Clients with a lower BMI should schedule a consultation to discuss their circumstances with a medical provider.

Does Radiant Prime accept insurance?

Radiant Prime is a cash-only clinic and we do not accept insurance for our services. However, we will complete Prior Authorization requests and coordinate with your insurance to request coverage for weight loss medications, specifically GLP1 medications that often require this documentation. As a courtesy, we will complete two Prior Authorizations at no cost. If additional Prior Authorizations are needed, we charge a $50 fee for subsequent requests. In most cases, we are able to verify your benefits prior to completing the first Prior Authorization.
